So what is your favorite web server? I thought I would ask this question on the mighty and elitist 96forum so that we can start talking about a few web server. Why you use them and what you would actually like to use but can't due to various factors.

I like to use Nginx because it is easy to configure and has a very low memory footprint. It also works well as a reverse proxy + caching front-end.

I heard good things with lighttpd as well, but never used it, for some reason I was under the (mis-)impression that it is not as powerful as Nginx, but I never used it so I can't comment.

IIS is for Windows only, which is not exactly what I would do for my own personal servers.

Apache...it is just bulky, LOL

I use Apache, Nginx, and sometimes Lighttpd. I use Nginx whenever it is possible since it always seems to be faster, and it uses less memory while doing so which is great. Configuration also always seems easier than Apache.

I use Apache when Nginx doesn't work. For example I have a cPanel server that needs to run Apache. I also have a few apps that only work with Apache, or at least work a whole lot better with Apache.

I haven't used Lighttpd a whole lot, but I am working to figure it out since it seems like a possible alternative to Nginx for certain things.

I haven't used most of the others. I have used IIS and Tomcat but never really liked either one of them when compared to the Apache, Nginx, and Lighttpd.

I thought there is a Nginx plug-in for CPanel of some sort, not sure how well it works though.

Heard Unixy's Varnish plugin for CPanel is good, but it cost quite a bit if you don't buy one of their servers.

I tried the the Nginx cPanel plugin and it wasn't that great The Unix plugin does look nice, same with LiteSpeed But both are expensive.

Call me crazy but my favorite web server is still Apache. I use both nginx and lighttpd where I want them, but Apache will always be where I am most comfortable.

Lighttpd works perfectly and runs on almost no memory. Preparing for the hate, but I prefer it over Nginx.

There is no hate, we all have different taste in life.
When I stopped using Apache on my LEB, I did first try lighthttpd but later on I changed my preference to nginx because the install scripts I used (and like) had no lighthttpd support, only nginx.

No hate here, since I'm still the only one using Cherokee in this forum I wouldn't dream of harassing "a minority" Wink
