To colocate your own you need to buy the server and buy the HDD too. This would set you back by quite some cash.

With this offer you can pay $120 setup fee and then have a dedi with 3TB HDD for $25.01/month. Seems more economical to me, both short term and long term Smile

In the interest of full disclosure: i work for FitVPS

@rds100: I think you should offer proxy-purchase as well, since shipping everything to Romania (that's where you are based right?) is probably not cheap.

@zhuanyi it's in Bulgaria, not Romania. And what is there to ship? We don't sell any physical goods, only services.

@rds100 Sorry I meant the hard drives, you need to ship the hard drive to your colo location right?

@rds100 Sorry, I meant the part where the customers are supposed to ship their own HDDs over if they are looking for a cheaper deal right?

EDIT: Never mind, I couldn't read, I thought the price does not include hard drives, which means the customers have to buy their own hard drives to lower the cost...my bad. My brain is wired a bit weird these days...

@zhuanyi no, no we are not accepting any drives from customers Smile This would be such a logistics mess, especially if customs have to be involved that it's just not worth it.
Customers can get HDD upgrades from us, for a fee either monthly, or one time.
The new configuration we are going to offer very soon even allows one to have a server with two 3TB HDDs for as low as $26.01/month (but with a setup fee that covers most of the cost of the HDDs).

@rds100 Haha, I am sure EDIS will understand the pain of getting parts from customers from offering the RPi colo, TBH sometimes I feel sorry for them, they were providing a service for free but yet it cost them so much time to receive and ship units and perform troubleshooting.

But in the end it really didn't cost them that much to host them as they didn't use much power or bandwidth at all.
