Updating VMWare

So I have this dedicated server with VMWare Exsi 5 installed on it. My question is, is the system actually updating itself once a while via cron/some other background job? If not, do you know how often we should update the system? From what I can tell, yum update or apt-get update will almost show me something new every week but I do not even see any command that is used to update the system on the VMWare end.

You should update every so often as there are patches from vmware.

The preferred way is to use vmware update manager.
Here is the link on how to install and use Update Manager.
